How To Make Pastry Crust
One-Crust Pastry
1 cup plus 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup cold shortening
3 to 5 tablespoons ice-cold water
Two-Crust Pastry
2 cups plus 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup cold shortening
6 to 8 tablespoons ice-cold water
Steps
- Mix flour and salt
- Add 1 tablespoon of water at a time to form a ball of dough
- Shape into a flatted circle and cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 45 minutes
- Roll into 2 inch circles
- Transfer pastry to tart pan
- Add fillings and bake until golden brown
